A LITTER of labradoodles, one of the most sought after dog breeds around, have been born in Kilkenny.

Labradoodles hit the headlines last year when US President Barrack Obama considered buying one for his daughter's Malia and Natasha. Since then, everybody wants one.

The litter of eight chocolate coloured puppies are the offspring of pedigree Poodle Fudge owned by Castlecomer furniture restorer Selina Gittens and pedigree Labrador Django which belongs to Jerry Fish of 'Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club' and formerly of 'An Emotional Fish'.

The six-week old puppies are the first litter of labradoodles born to mum Fudge who, her her owner says,  is delighted with her new brood.

Even more delighted with the new arrivals are Selina's children Joey (13) and Abbey (8). "I wanted to have puppies around for the kids. When I was a child we always had Jack Russell puppies to play with every year when they were at their most fun age. Joey and Abbey havealways been told that we won't be keeping the puppies," Selina explained.

Labradoodle's popularity stems not only from their presidential seal of approval but they are also known to be sociable, friendly, non aggressive, and intelligent.

Their non allergic coats also make them popular among people with allergies. Famous labradoodle owners include Jennifer Aniston, Jeremy Irons, Billy Bragg, Jeremy Clarkson and Neil Young.

Selina is looking for genuine, loving and informed homes for the puppies. The photographs show them at six weeks old so there is only a slight wave visible on their coats. Ladradoodles do not develop their characteristic curly coats until after 10 weeks. Selina can be contacted at 087-6827348.
