TALENTED kids again stole the soccer limelight in Kilkenny at the weekend.

Pride of place goes to Kilkenny U12 Inter League team who beat the North Eastern Counties 1-0 at Scanlon Park.

Scorer for young Kilkenny was Aidan Tuohy whose free kick hit the underside of the NEC crossbar and bounced out but a linesman had spotted that the ball had cross the goal line.

Kilkenny were the better team the whole way through. They passed the ball well and ran midfield but up front their rather small strikers, despite having lots of tricks, struggled to make an impact.

The Cats also missed a penalty but near the death home goalkeeper Aidan Hynes made a brilliant full stretch save to keep maximum points for Mick Manley’s team.

In a cracking U11 league tie, a smashing little Ormondevilla team did the business against Thomastown United, hitting them for five. United got a consolation goal after the break. Villa led 5-0 at the break.

Scorers for the Villa were Eoin Wall (2), Fionn Dowling, Jack Hennessy and Charlie Deegan. Tom Lalor scored for the visitors to Millennium Park.
