Season three of Green Screen
SEASON three of Future Proof Kilkenny's 'Green Screen' will kick off at 8pm on Thursday. The popular film and documentary screenings examine the global issues of sustainability, justice, equality and the environment.
This year's screenings will take place in the historic surroundings of City Hall on High Street.
The program will commence with 'King Corn' - a film about two best friends who move to Iowa to grow corn on an acre of soil and then follow it on its journey to the dinner plate. The film is enormously entertaining, unexpectedly moving, earnest and open-minded, and more than a little bit tragic.
Films will then run every second week until Christmas. Admission is free of charge but a contribution is appreciated to cover costs.
The full program is available from http://futureproofkilkenny.org
Announcing the new venue Mayor Noonan said: “As Kilkenny celebrates 400 years of city status, I believe that it is fitting that the centre of local democracy since 1736, the Tholsel, be used as a forum for debate on the next 400 years and beyond.
“As Mayor in this historic year I am delighted to be hosting this thought provoking series of films in this special venue. I would like to thank my colleagues and staff of Kilkenny Borough Council and Future Proof Kilkenny for putting the programme together.”
