Great soccer as City rivals clash sticky icon

FREEBOOTERS U10s played two very competitive and sporting games against city rivals Evergreen on the Kells Road. In the first match man of the match Ross Whelan scored the only goal of the game, with TJ Steins & Ciaran Walsh getting the Blues goals in the second game.

Glasgow Celtic supporters celebrate sticky icon

MEMBERS of The Wolfe Tone branch of the Glasgow Celtic Supporters’ Club had an enjoyable night in The Rivercourt Hotel, Kilkenny, on Saturday.

The Hoops may not be enjoying the best season in the history of the famous club but supporters remain loyal.

For years the Wolfe Tone branch members have been making regular trips to Glasgow to support their heroes and in turn former players, some of whom now enjoy legend status, have attended functions of the Kilkenny club.

Among those still championing the cause if Derek Maher who was again among the chief organisers of the weekend event.

Kilkenny film scoops two major awards sticky icon

OSCAR nominated animation company Cartoon Saloon picked up two awards at the Irish Films and Television Academy (IFTA) awards ceremony.

The Kilkenny company was nominated in three categories of the prestigious awards.

Graignamanagh man Tomm Moore was named the 2010 Irish Film Board Rising Star and his film 'The Secret of Kells' took home the award for Best Animation.

Cartoon Saloon also won an IFTA in 2008 for their TV series Skunk Fu!.

Hopes are now high that they will bring home an Oscar from the upcoming Academy Awards in Los Angeles on March 7.

Young Valentine celebrates in style sticky icon

A VALENTINE’S Day baby celebrated his birthday in style at the weekend.

 

Eoin Burke of Fatima Place, Kilkenny, is 21 today, Sunday, and he celebrated with family and friends at a party in Dicksboro GAA Club on Saturday.

 

In a witty throw back to his tender years a special birthday cake carried a picture of Eoin in nappies and sitting proudly on a bean bag.

Full houses at ’Comer Panto sticky icon

ROBIN HOOD and Frankenstein are proving to be a perfect match in North Kilkenny's Castlecomer.

For the panto, Robin Hood meets Frankenstein, by Deenside Players, is proving to be a huge success.

Premier was last Tuesday and every evening since the 'full house' sign has been up as the the talented men, women and children of ’Comer stage a wonderful show.

It has been a super week for Midgy, Mousey, Chubby, Ozzie and the band of marvellously devoted people who make up The Deenside Players.

The panto continues until Sunday when the final performance will be at 8pm. There will be a matinee at 2.30.

 

Pink quiz for Haiti sticky icon

PINK Kilkenny in association with Oxfam Ireland hold a table quiz in aid of the Haiti Earthquake appeal this Thursday at 8pm in Dignity Bar, Parliament Street, Kilkenny.

The quiz will be hosted by Joanna Ryde and the lads from RTE's All Ireland Talent Show.
